With the Consul General of India, Hong Kong, as our patron, the FIPHK was formed on 2001. We are a non-profit, registered organisation in Hong Kong that provides a platform to professionals of Indian origin to network, interact and participate in events, focused on current affairs, culture, literature, business, sport, health & well-being. The Forum is also involved in taking on issues relevant to Indian professionals and the Indian community in Hong Kong, including participating in Government white papers and discussions, responses to media reports and editorials. As we have a close association with the Consul General of India, we work with them on various initiatives as well.
While there are several social forums for Indian expatriates in Hong Kong, such groups cater primarily to either the Indian business community or are organized along regional or linguistic lines representing one or more of India’s myriad cultural groups. However, over the years, there has been a steady increase in the number of Indian professionals in Hong Kong and the FIPHK draws its membership from a cross-section of professionals from various industries like banking and finance, telecom, IT, media, shipping, insurance, law, accounting, consulting, medicine and academia, transcending regional, linguistic and cultural boundaries. Our members are professionally qualified individuals who hold senior positions in Hong Kong corporates and represent a diverse and rich cross-section of regional, linguistic, and professional backgrounds.
We also organize six to seven main events during a calendar year. These include an annual quiz, theatre night, panel discussions and talks by eminent personalities and achievers from various fields, including literature, the arts, sport, politics, the environment and business.
Over the years, we have had the privilege of hosting Mr. Shashi Tharoor, Mr. NR Narayana Murthy, Mr. Prakash Jha, Mr. Vikas Swarup, Mr. Amitav Ghosh, Mr. Chetan Bhagat, Mr. Sunil Gavaskar, Ms. Mary Kom, Ms. Kiran Bedi, Mr. Harsha Bhogle to name a few.
